About

WHO IS THIS DEBBI? Debbi Gitterman is an experienced yoga instructor and certified yoga therapist (RYT-500 with Yoga Alliance) who began her journey on the mat 20 plus years ago.

Debbi believes firmly in the healing power of yoga. Her goal is to empower practitioners to take control of their own health and well being through movement, attention to breath, and meditation. Her expertise lies in making yoga accessible for every body: demystifying poses, simplifying breath work, and making meditation accessible, all with humor and compassion.

WHY YOGA? Stress, anxiety, fear, depression, trauma, and grief have a sneaky way of manifesting themselves in the body, often causing physical pain. Whether the pain is chronic or acute or somewhere in between, yoga can offer a way to find relief. The physical aspect of yoga, asana, can provide a way to manage pain.

Asana is also powerful in that it can be a foot in the door to access the underlying psycho-social causes of pain. Pranayama, breath work, acts as an equally potent tool to calm the central nervous system. Factor in meditation, and the yoga trifecta is complete.

WHY DEBBI? She breaks it down so that the work is manageable and easy to understand, therefore easy to do. Debbi has a breadth of experience and depth of knowledge; she understands that each individual has a different story housed in their body, their mind, their spirit. She is passionate about helping her students find balance, harmony, and healing.

CREDENTIALS Debbi’s first training was with YogaStream in Princeton, NJ, where she received her 200-hour certification in 2012. She is also an instructor for LYT, a method of movement created from a physical-therapy model. Debbi has led both teacher trainings and on-line classes for LYT, where her videos still live.

In 2021, Debbi turned her attention to Yoga Therapy at the Prema Yoga Institute in New York City, where she completed her RYT-500 in May 2022.

BUT I HAVE NEVER DONE YOGA! No worries! Debbi has a varied clientele. She works with cancer patients during or after treatment, older adults who want to improve balance and mobility, athletes and weekend warriors looking to enhance their game, individuals looking for improved levels of fitness, pain management, or stress reduction. Debbi is well-versed in teaching chair yoga, restorative yoga, slow flow, and vigorous vinyasa. From novice to advanced yogi, Debbi has something to offer.
